2023 Cabernet Franc

"Cabernet Franc is the best red grape for winemaking in Virginia because it is predictable in the vineyard and handles our constantly shifting vintage stresses really well. 2023 was a perfect vintage for Cab Franc as the dry summer led to a cool fall where the grapes could retain acid and high fruit notes while continuing to ripen really well. Tannins that are granola brown on the palate and bright cherries to complement them. Like wine pie if you will. No oak required. And while 2023 was what I would call nearly perfect, 2022 was a brilliant growing season unto itself. The bottling we put together involved some blending of vineyards and winemaking techniques and resulted in a very strong blend of Franc that is an aromatic powerhouse while being light and sincerely quaffable on the palate.
